Ledged and Braced Doors

Ledged and braced doors are a very traditional and simple style of door comprising of boards fixed to ledges running at 90 degrees to the boards. Where the boards meet each other the joint is often emphasized with a scratch bead or V joint. Ledges are usually left square or adorned with a simple splay or chamfer.

Ledges doors look wonderful in a cottage and were often the door of choice in simple humble settings.

Oak and Pine are the species most often used, boards with character create a more pleasing in many settings. Offsetting this with simple wrought iron fittings creates a very pleasing look.
