Timber Windows Designed for Your Property

Windows have a significant influence on the appearance and character of a building. Standard sizes and designs are not always suitable for older homes, unusual openings or projects where architectural details need to be retained.

Because each window is made individually, we can adapt the design to your property. This can include matching existing glazing bars and mouldings, reproducing original proportions, creating windows for unusual openings or working to a specification provided by your architect or builder.

We manufacture windows for complete property renovations as well as smaller projects involving one or two important openings.

Timber Window Styles

Flush Casement Windows

Flush casement windows have opening sections that close level with the surrounding frame. Their traditional appearance makes them particularly appropriate for cottages, farmhouses, listed buildings and other period properties.

They can combine carefully proportioned frames and glazing bars with modern weather seals, glazing and security features.

Sliding Sash Windows

Timber sliding sash windows remain an important feature of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties.

We manufacture replacement sash windows to suit the proportions and character of the building. Traditional cords, weights and pulleys can be combined with discreet draught sealing, carefully selected glazing and factory-applied finishes.

Where existing sash windows remain in reasonable condition, we can also assess whether repair or refurbishment is more appropriate than complete replacement.

Stormproof Windows

Stormproof windows have opening casements that overlap the outer frame, providing additional protection in exposed locations.

They can be made to measure with double glazing, weather seals, secure locking systems and a factory-painted or stained finish.

Bay and Feature Windows

Bespoke manufacture allows us to create timber bay windows, arched windows, gable windows and other designs that cannot be satisfactorily replaced with a standard product.

We can reproduce an existing feature window or develop a new design that suits the building.

Replacement Windows for Period and Listed Buildings

Replacing windows in an older property requires more than simply filling the existing opening. Frame proportions, mouldings, glazing bars, opening arrangements and the relationship between the window and the surrounding building all affect the finished appearance.

We can reproduce original or historically appropriate details while incorporating suitable glazing, weather sealing and ironmongery.

For listed buildings and properties in conservation areas, the correct design and glazing specification will depend on the building and any consent requirements. We can provide the joinery details needed to support discussions with your architect, planning consultant or local authority.

We also undertake timber window repairs and refurbishment where the existing joinery can be retained.

Timber and Glazing Options

The most appropriate timber will depend on the design, finish, location and budget of the project.

Accoya is frequently chosen for painted external windows because of its stability and resistance to decay. Oak can be appropriate where its natural appearance and traditional character are important, while Red Grandis and other durable timbers provide further options for painted or stained joinery.

We will explain the practical differences between the available timbers rather than automatically recommending the most expensive material.

Glazing choices can include:

• Face-puttied glazing
• Leaded and decorative glass
• Safety or privacy glass where required

The final specification will be selected to balance appearance, performance and any planning or listed-building requirements.

Made and Finished in Our South Molton Workshop

Your windows are manufactured to order in our own workshop by an experienced joinery team.

Factory finishing allows the timber to be prepared, coated and glazed under controlled conditions before delivery. Windows can be painted or stained in a wide range of colours, including different internal and external finishes where required.

Ironmongery can range from traditional stays and fasteners to modern locking systems, depending on the window style and security requirements.

We offer both supply-only and supply-and-install services. Where installation is included, we can survey the openings, remove the existing windows, fit the new joinery and complete the agreed finishing work.
