Bi Fold Wood Doors

Bespoke Timber Bi-Fold Doors Made in Devon

G S Haydon manufactures bespoke timber bi-fold doors for extensions, renovations and individual homes across Devon.

Made to measure in our South Molton workshop, our bi-fold doors can create a wide opening between your home and garden while retaining the warmth and character of natural timber.

Each set is designed around the opening, property and required finish, with modern double glazing, specialist folding hardware and factory-applied paint or stain systems.

Bi-fold doors are available supply only or with surveying and professional installation.

Made-to-Measure Wooden Bi-Fold Doors

Every bi-fold door system we manufacture is made specifically for the project rather than selected from a standard range of sizes.

This allows us to adjust the number and proportions of the door panels, opening arrangement, timber, glazing and finish to suit the building.

Options can include:

  • Different panel configurations
  • Inward or outward opening arrangements where appropriate
  • Double-glazed units
  • Low thresholds where suitable
  • Modern weather seals
  • Secure locking systems
  • Painted or stained finishes
  • Different colours internally and externally

Clean profiles and simple mouldings work particularly well with bi-fold doors, helping maximise the glazed area and views through the opening.

Timber or Sliding Doors?

Bi-fold doors are particularly useful where you want to open most of a wide doorway and create a strong connection between the house and outside space.

For very large openings where fewer vertical frame sections are preferred when the doors are closed, our timber lift-and-slide doors provide an alternative.

You can also view our full range of bespoke timber doors for other external door styles.

Choosing Timber for Bi-Fold Doors

Stability is particularly important in a large folding door system because several individual panels need to remain accurately aligned for the hardware and weather seals to work correctly.

Accoya is one of the timbers we regularly use for external bi-fold doors because of its dimensional stability and resistance to decay.

Durable hardwoods may also be appropriate depending on the required appearance and finish.

Our guide to Accoya for timber windows and doors explains its advantages and when we believe the additional material cost is worthwhile.

Double Glazing and Hardware

Timber bi-fold doors can incorporate modern energy-efficient double glazing to provide large areas of glass while maintaining good thermal performance.

The quality of the folding and sliding hardware is equally important. A large set of doors places significant demands on hinges, rollers and tracks, so we use hardware designed specifically for timber bi-fold systems.

The exact specification will depend on the size and configuration of the doors.

Factory Finished in South Molton

We generally recommend factory finishing for external bi-fold doors.

The doors can be prepared, painted or stained and glazed in our workshop before delivery, allowing the timber to be protected under controlled conditions before it reaches the property.

A wide range of colours and finishes is available, including different internal and external colours where required.

Supply Only or Professionally Installed

Our timber bi-fold doors can be manufactured on a supply-only basis for installation by your builder or contractor.

For projects within our installation area, we can also provide the complete service from initial survey through manufacture and factory finishing to installation.

Most of our installed work is undertaken across North Devon and surrounding parts of Devon, with supply-only projects considered further afield.
