What Is a Flush Casement Window?

A flush casement window has an opening section that closes level with the surrounding frame, rather than overlapping it.

This creates the simple, balanced appearance associated with many traditional cottages, farmhouses and period homes. Flush casements can also work well on contemporary properties where clean proportions and natural timber are important.

If greater weather protection from an overlapping casement is required, our stormproof timber windows provide an alternative design.

Every window we manufacture is made individually rather than adapted from a standard size.

This allows us to match the character of an existing property or work to drawings supplied by an architect or builder. Details can include:

Where replacement windows are proposed for a listed building or conservation project, we can manufacture them to closely replicate the existing design and provide appropriate joinery details for the project.

Replacement is not always necessary. Where existing frames or casements remain serviceable, our timber window repair and refurbishment service may allow more of the original joinery to be retained.

Timber Choices

We manufacture casement windows from several timbers, depending on the appearance, exposure and budget of the project.

European Oak and durable joinery-grade hardwoods can also be used where their appearance or particular characteristics suit the project.

We will discuss the practical advantages of each option before the timber specification is agreed.

Double Glazing and Heritage Glazing

Our timber casement windows can incorporate modern energy-efficient double glazing while retaining carefully proportioned timber frames.

For period and sensitive properties, slim heritage double glazing can provide another option where finer glazing bars and a more traditional appearance are required.

Traditional single glazing, face-puttied details, leaded glass and other specialist glazing can also be considered where appropriate.

Factory Finished and Ready to Install

We generally recommend factory finishing so the timber can be prepared and coated under controlled workshop conditions before it reaches the property.

Windows can be painted or stained in a wide range of finishes, including different colours internally and externally where required.

We provide both supply-only and supply-and-install services. For installed projects, we can survey the openings, manufacture and finish the windows in South Molton and complete the agreed installation work on site.
