Bespoke Timber Doors Made in Devon

G S Haydon designs and manufactures bespoke timber doors for period properties, listed buildings, renovations and individual homes across Devon.

Every door is made to measure in our South Molton workshop, allowing the design, proportions, timber, glazing, ironmongery and finish to be selected around the property rather than a standard range of sizes.

We manufacture everything from traditional front and stable doors to French doors and larger glazed door systems, with supply-only and professionally installed options available.

Made-to-Measure Wooden Doors

A bespoke door can be designed to complement the character of an existing property, reproduce details from an original door or create something completely new.

We regularly manufacture doors for non-standard openings and older properties where off-the-shelf products do not provide the right proportions or appearance.

Depending on the project, details can include traditional mouldings and panels, glazed sections, sidelights, fanlights, specialist ironmongery and modern locking systems.

Types of Timber Doors We Make

Entrance and Front Doors

Our bespoke timber entrance doors can be designed for traditional or contemporary properties, with painted or natural timber finishes, glazing and a wide choice of ironmongery.

The door and frame can be manufactured together where required, helping us control the proportions, weather sealing and overall appearance of the entrance.

Stable Doors

Timber stable doors combine traditional character with the practical advantage of being able to open the upper section independently.

They are particularly popular for cottages, farmhouses, kitchens and utility entrances and can incorporate modern glazing, weather seals and secure locking.

Timber French Doors

We manufacture made-to-measure timber French doors for properties where a pair of glazed doors provides access to a garden, terrace or patio.

The proportions, glazing bars and detailing can be designed to suit traditional properties or kept simpler for more contemporary homes. Modern double glazing and multipoint locking can be incorporated where appropriate.

Bi-Fold and Large Glazed Doors

For extensions and homes where a wider opening to the garden is required, we manufacture timber bi-fold doors and lift-and-slide timber doors.

These larger door systems combine bespoke timber joinery with specialist hardware and modern energy-efficient glazing.

Traditional Cottage Doors

Our ledged and braced timber doors are made for cottages, farmhouses, barn conversions and other traditional properties.

Because they are made individually, plank widths, proportions, braces and ironmongery can all be selected to complement the building.

Replacement Doors for Period and Listed Properties

Replacing a door in an older property requires careful consideration of its proportions, mouldings, panels, glazing and surrounding frame.

We can reproduce important details from the existing joinery or create a new design that is sympathetic to the building.

For listed properties, the appropriate design, glazing and extent of replacement will depend on the building and any consent requirements.

Replacement is not always necessary. Where an existing door or frame can reasonably be retained, our joinery repair and refurbishment service may provide a more appropriate solution.

Timber, Glazing and Finishes

The timber specification will depend on the design, required appearance, exposure and budget.

Options can include Accoya, European Oak and suitable durable hardwoods, with other timbers used where appropriate to the project.

External doors can incorporate energy-efficient double glazing, slim heritage glazing, traditional single glazing or decorative glass depending on the property.

We generally recommend factory finishing for exterior doors. Painting, staining and glazing the joinery in our workshop allows the timber to be prepared and protected under controlled conditions before installation.

Ironmongery can range from traditional hinges, handles and locks to modern multipoint locking systems.

How Much Does a Bespoke Timber Door Cost?

Every door is individually priced according to its size, timber, design, glazing, finish, frame and installation requirements.

As a general guide:

  • Painted hardwood external door: approximately £3,000–£4,000 supplied and fitted
  • Oak external door: approximately £3,500–£5,000+ depending on specification

These figures are intended as a starting point rather than a fixed quotation. More complex entrances, sidelights, large glazed screens and specialist designs will be priced individually.
