An old steel window that didn't need replacing

One of the windows was an older Crittall-style steel window, probably dating from the 1960s or earlier.

Despite its age, the galvanised steel construction remained in excellent condition. The weakness wasn't actually the window itself but part of the timber subframe into which it had been fitted.

Rather than removing a perfectly serviceable steel window, we carried out a straightforward repair to the cill area with a new facing piece.
